Tales from Great Smokey Avenue

Word is still out on what Mr. Gooch was smoking that lead him to behave like this.

BLACK FOREST, COLO. -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office diffused a standoff situation in Black Forest Monday morning.

It began as a domestic disturbance called in by the suspect's wife late Sunday night from their home on Great Smokey Avenue.

Deputies say the man, identified as 50-year-old Anthony Gooch, drove his car into his home, started his porch on fire, and then barricaded himself inside.

After several hours, officials said Gooch began fueling a fire from inside the home and eventually came out because of all the smoke.

They say Gooch was holding a shotgun when he came outside and fired it into the ground before deputies used a Taser on him and took him in to custody.
