A Farewell to Arm

It's all fun and games until somebody gets his arm cut off.

A YOUNG builder's arm was severed when he became entangled in a "tarzan rope" he was using to swing across a country river.

In a freak accident, Lindsay Hobbs, 20, was with a group of friends enjoying the hot weather yesterday when the rope tightened and cut off his arm above the elbow.

A friend rushed him to local Wimmera Base Hospital, near Horsham, in their car, while another friend dialled 000 to alert them of his imminent arrival.

The blue-coloured rope, with a small white buoy at the bottom, hangs from a tree over the Wimmera River.

"It's a very popular area, especially on hot days like this. People like to have fun swinging out and jumping into the river," said a local resident.

"Despite the emergency, the park is still quite full, and there are some children playing on a rope a few metres down the river - I don't think anyone realises what has happened."
